Black-Bellied Plovers

Black-Bellied Plovers run right along the surf and forage in the sand for food right after it recedes. They run fast and then stop abruptly seeking their seafood treats! Winter birds and immatures are grey and lack black underparts. Photo taken on Assateague Island.
