Homestead Winter
Martin Hagy and his brother came to the colonies from Switzerland. Martin settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, fought in the American Revolution, and eventually moved his family along the Great Road to the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. In 1793, Martin purchased a large tract of land in Washington County. It is thought that the cabin was built around 1815 by Martin’s son, Jacob. It has been restored and is now a central feature of the Fairview History Museum in Abingdon, Virginia.
