Frontier Culture Museum
German Farmhouse kitchen
The kitchen of a german farmhouse from a village in the Rheinland-Palatinate. Orginally built in the 1700s, the farmhouse and barns were disassembled and reconstructed in the Frontier Culture museum in Staunton, Virginia. The German farm shows farm life in a village in the 18th century. German-speaking Protestants from the Rhineland were recruited by the English government and proprietors to settle their North American colonies. As settlers on the colonial frontier, these German-speaking pioneers contributed to the distinctive customs and practices of the American frontier culture.
