Virginia Creeper Trail
Located on 34 miles of an abandoned railway right of way in Southwest Virginia, the Virginia Creeper Trail is considered to be one of the most scenic rails to trails in eastern North America. Seventeen miles of the trail, from Whitetop to Damascus, Virginia is a fun downhill ride for thousands of bikers during the season.

Mile Marker No 6
Many of the original mile markers for the former Abingdon branch of the Norfolk and Western railroad still exist on the Virginia Creeper Trail. Mile Marker No. 6 is east of the Watauga Access and indicates six miles from Depot Square in downtown Abingdon, Virginia. The Virginia-Carolina railroad went into action on 7 February 1900, when its first train steamed along from Abingdon to Damascus, Virginia.
